Step two: How many pages do I need?

Using the same, "buying a home" metaphor as before, think of the pages of your site as rooms to a house. You put things that go together in the same room, like the stove and dishwasher in the kitchen and the sofa and tv in the den. So it would make sense to do the same thing when thinking about the placement of your sites content and how many pages, (or rooms) you will need to hold it all.

To help you start this thinking process, let's begin with one page all sites need... a "contact" page. On this page you would want to display all of the information a potentional customer would need to contact you. Email addresses, street addresses, phone numbers, photos of yourself, your employees and of your store front are all examples of things that could be provided here.

The rest of the pages will really depend on the type of business or idea your website was created for. For example, if you run the corner cafe, you might want a page that displays your new lunch menu. If this was a two column layout, you could have your menu listed in the larger main area, and your weekly specials listed in the other column. Since your corner cafe is located in a historical building, you might choose to have another page displaying old photographs of the building being built or other pieces of it's history. And since those coffee beans are specially imported from faraway, you might want a page that tells of the love and care that went into growing and harvesting every bean.

The easiest way to sort thru this process is to start taking notes each time you think of something you would like on your website. Don't try to organize your thoughts, just start writing them down. After a while you will notice that some of your ideas seem to "belong in the same room" together and before you know it all of your ideas will have a place to go.

Our design staff will be there to work with you every step of the way.
